Created by Chicago artist and designer Michelle Metcalf of ModaMichelle, the original Scribes artwork draws inspiration from her personal experience at Howard, her time on the Yard, and her longstanding Howard community connections. The design incorporates more than 90 authentic Howard elements comprising over 140 words, carefully translated by the in-house knit design team into an intricate knitted composition.
The sweater features White graffiti-inspired lettering across a rich Navy Blue base, with Red accents highlighting key words and themes, including Howard, University, Bison, and The Yard. Solid Navy trim creates a clean, cohesive finish, while the back showcases the iconic Big Blue Bison mascot head knitted in Navy Blue, Denim Blue, and White.
